A Step-by-Step Guide from Site Survey to Flip-the-Switch
Going solar is an exciting step toward energy independence — but we understand that it can feel a bit overwhelming at first. At Aicon Solar, we believe the process should be transparent, stress-free, and tailored to your home.
Here’s exactly what to expect during your solar installation — from the moment you sign up to the day your system starts producing clean energy.
1️⃣ Free Consultation & Custom Proposal
Everything starts with a quick phone call or in-home visit. We’ll review:
- Your roof and available space
- Past energy usage (electric bills)
- Your goals (bill savings, backup power, or both)
- Budget and financing options
We then prepare a custom solar design, projected savings, and system size recommendation — all at no cost.
2️⃣ Site Survey & Engineering
Once you’re ready to move forward, our team schedules a site survey to gather technical data:
- Roof structure and measurements
- Main electrical panel inspection
- Shading analysis
- Access for installation
This info is passed to our engineering and permitting team, who finalize the system layout and electrical plans.
3️⃣ Permitting & Utility Approval
We handle all paperwork with your:
- City or county building department
- Homeowners association (if needed)
- Utility provider (for interconnection approval)
📌 Permitting can take 2–4 weeks, depending on the city and utility.
4️⃣ Installation Day
Our licensed crew arrives ready to install your full system — typically in 1 to 2 days, depending on complexity.
What to expect:
- Mounting rails secured to roof rafters
- Panels safely installed and wired
- Inverter(s), batteries, or EV chargers installed if applicable
- All work inspected and cleaned before we leave
We’ll also walk you through the system and answer any final questions.
5️⃣ Final Inspection
After installation, we schedule a final inspection with your city or county. A certified inspector will check the system for safety and code compliance.
Once approved, we move to the final step…
6️⃣ Utility Connection & Permission to Operate (PTO)
We submit the final paperwork to your utility (like SDG&E or SCE) for interconnection approval. Once granted, you’ll receive official Permission to Operate (PTO) — and we’ll flip the switch!
🏁 After Activation
- You’ll start seeing your energy bill drop within the next 30–60 days
- You’ll have access to a mobile app (like Tesla or Enphase) to monitor performance
- We’ll stay available for support, warranty service, and future upgrades (like batteries or EV charging)
